I'm enjoying exploring Spiral, but I wanted to share feedback about a UX issue I encountered as a new user.
When I tried creating my first workspaces, I hit a confusing roadblock. I clicked "+Create a Workspace," entered the name, and expected the workspace to appear in my list. It didn't. No save button existed, and no error message appeared to guide me. After several attempts and a browser refresh, I still only saw "Personal" in my workspace list.
Eventually, I figured out the issue: you need to upload content for a workspace to save. This requirement isn't communicated during the creation flow.
Here's why this matters for new users:
The "Create a Workspace" button sets an expectation that doesn't match reality
Without guidance, users don't know what step they're missing
The lack of feedback (error message, tooltip, or prompt) leaves users stuck
Three ways to fix this:
Display a message during creation: "Add documents or knowledge to complete workspace setup"
Build a guided flow: Step 1 (Name workspace) β Step 2 (Add content) β Step 3 (Confirm creation)
Allow empty workspace creation, then prompt users to add content afterward
A small change here would eliminate significant confusion for new users and create a smoother onboarding experience.
Thanks for building a great product. I'm loving it so far and can't wait to make it part of my daily process.
(I used Spiral to write this feedback, by the way.)
